Meet Behr’s longest serving team member: Kevin Call.
In 1979, Kevin Call fulfilled his dream of moving from the East Coast to Southern California—packed two bags, booked a one-way ticket, and never looked back. After a casual run-in with an acquaintance who worked at (and highly recommended) Behr, Kevin found himself applying the next day and, soon after, was hired at an Orange County manufacturing facility (formerly known as “Alton”). His strong work ethic accelerated his growth from running a fill line to joining the sales team and leading the Northeast as the first ever Regional Manager. After serving as Vice President of the Northeast for 25 years, Kevin most recently stepped into the Regional Sales Manager position to fulfill his passion in mentoring sales teams in his region. As Behr’s longest serving team member, Kevin has dedicated 43 years to sharing his passion, leadership, and historical stories. Fun fact: He once shared an office with Otho Behr Jr.
What does a typical day in your role look like? Mondays really set the stage for the rest of the week, and then we get out into the field and we’re with our team members. My goal is to ensure that everybody is wearing the Behr hat and understands how critical their positions are and what their job opportunities are. Then there’s recruiting, hiring, and promoting people.
What is your favorite thing about your job at Behr? It’s the people. From sales and distribution to corporate—the people at Behr are what drive me. Having the opportunity to help people get to the next level in their career or just become friends—that’s what I love absolutely the most. We make a difference. We make great products but without great people great products will sit on the shelf.
What piece of advice would you share with all Behr team members? Make sure you care about the other team members, and you care about your customers. Don’t ever forget that without a customer, we wouldn’t be here. We must make sure our customers are always taken care of. Also, there’s plenty of opportunities within our own company. Don’t think that you can’t take another level in your life with Behr because you can. And don’t forget your family at home. You can’t forget why you’re here and what you’re doing it for.
What does “make life more colorful” mean to you? It’s about making people feel better about themselves. If you can help someone feel better about themselves, why wouldn’t they feel more colorful?
