From the laboratory to the store shelves, creating and delivering Behr Paint products to consumers requires the collective effort of many hardworking team members. Maintaining a healthy and safe work environment is always a top priority. With 8 manufacturing and 12 distribution centers around the world, these teams make up a significant part of our success and commitment to excellence.
“We want you to go home the same way you came in. It has become part of the culture because going home safe is a priority.
With the amount of physical labor these teams take part in every day, safety is placed as top priority. “There’s a quote everybody knows here, says Alvaro Zubieta, Assistant Manager at Santa Ana, California’s Standard distribution center. “We want you to go home the same way you came in. It has become part of the culture because going home safe is a priority.
Each year, every distribution and manufacturing facility aims to join in “Club Zero, a title given to facilities with zero recordable injuries for the entire year. In 2019, Behr had 14 out of 19 facilities in “Club Zero—a testament to their dedication to safety. To reward this achievement, team members receive exclusive rewards to celebrate the milestone, such as Club Zero branded jackets and more.

Given Behr’s strong encouragement for every voice to be heard, supervisors rely on hearing directly from team members to ensure a safe work zone. “Whenever they see something that is not safe, they feel comfortable coming and telling us, says Anna Ochoa, Safety Supervisor at the Standard distribution center. “They know we care so we make sure to communicate with them if they are not doing something right, and they appreciate it. To continue the commitment to creating a safe work environment, fun activities are incorporated to promote overall wellbeing. Teams participate in morning stretches, compete in safety bingo or raffles and t-shirt giveaways. Several of these teams have also invested in improvements to their facility recreation areas in recognition of safety milestones that have been achieved.
Safety is a priority to continue the successful operations of the business, but most importantly, to ensure the protection of an individual and their families. Team members often bring in photos of their families, children or partners as a reason why they come in and work safely.
There’s a sense of camaraderie and accountability when it comes to looking out for team members, and the diligence spent to keep the team safe pays off. Jesse Ramirez, Plant Manager at Santa Ana, California’s Garry manufacturing facility says, “We ensure each and every team member ends the day as they started so they can go home and be with their family and loved ones.
